You are learning Sorting and Filtering in MS Excel

How to filter for data that matches a specific cell format?

While there isn't a direct filter option for data matching a specific cell format in Excel, you can achieve this using a combination of conditional formatting and filtering. Here's how:

1. Apply Conditional Formatting:
- Select the data range you want to filter.
- Go to the "Home" tab and click "Conditional Formatting" in the Styles group.
- Choose "New Rule" from the dropdown menu.
- In the "New Formatting Rule" window, select "Format cells that meet specific conditions."
- Click "Format values that are..." and choose the formatting criteria that defines your desired cell format (e.g., specific number format, font color, etc.)
- Define the specific format details in the following options.
- Click "Format..." and set the desired formatting style for cells that meet the criteria.
- Click OK to close the formatting window.
- Click OK again to apply the conditional formatting rule.

2. Filter Based on Format:
- With the conditional formatting applied, cells that match your specific format will be visually distinguished (e.g., highlighted with a color).
- Go to the "Data" tab and click the "Sort & Filter" dropdown arrow in the "Data Tools" group.
- Select "Filter" from the dropdown menu. Filter arrows will appear on each column header.
- Click the filter arrow on the column containing the formatted cells.
- Choose "Text Filters" from the dropdown menu.
- Select "Icon" (or the specific formatting condition you used) to filter only cells with that specific formatting.

This approach leverages conditional formatting to visually identify cells with the desired format, and then uses regular filtering to isolate those formatted cells.
