How to create a combination chart with different chart types?

Here's how to create a combination chart with different chart types in Excel:

1. Select your data:
Make sure your data is organized in a table format, with categories in the first column and data series in separate columns.

2. Insert a Chart:
- Go to the "Insert" tab on the Excel ribbon.
- In the "Charts" group, click the dropdown arrow under "Recommended Charts" or the "Insert Chart" button.

3. Choose a Combo Chart:
- In the "Insert Chart" window, navigate to the "All Charts" tab.
- Under the "Combo" chart category, select the combination chart that best suits your needs. Some common examples include:
- Clustered Column - Line on Secondary Axis
- Clustered Column - Line
- Clustered Column - Area

4. Customize Chart Types:
- By default, Excel might assign chart types to your data series. You can customize them:
- Click on a data series in the chart to select it.
- Go to the "Chart Design" tab (or "Chart Tools" depending on your Excel version).
- In the "Change Chart Type" group, click the dropdown arrow and choose the desired chart type for that specific data series. (e.g., change a column to a line chart)
- You can also use the secondary axis option to plot certain data series on a separate Y-axis with a different scale.

5. Refine your Chart:
- Once you have the desired chart types, you can further customize the chart by:
- Adding chart elements like titles, labels, and legends.
- Formatting colors, fonts, and data markers.
- Adjusting the chart layout and axes.

Tips:

* The best combination chart type depends on your data and what you want to emphasize.
* Clustered columns are good for comparing categories, while line charts are better for showing trends over time.
* Area charts can be useful for visualizing the magnitude of change over time.
* Use the secondary axis when you have data series with vastly different scales that would be difficult to visualize on a single axis.
* Play around with different chart type combinations to see what best communicates your data insights.
