How to change the chart layout and orientation?
There are two main ways to change the layout and orientation of your chart in Excel:
1. Using Quick Layouts:
- Click anywhere on your chart to activate the Chart Tools. This will add the "Design," "Layout," and "Format" tabs to the ribbon.
- Go to the "Design" tab.
- In the "Chart Layouts" group, you'll see a variety of pre-designed layouts with different arrangements of chart elements (titles, labels, legend, etc.).
- Click on a thumbnail preview of the layout you want to apply. Excel will instantly change your chart to match that layout.
2. Manual Adjustments:
- While the "Design" tab offers quick layout options, you can also customize the layout manually using the "Layout" and "Format" tabs:
- Layout Tab: This tab offers options to modify specific chart elements like:
- Axes (titles, labels, gridlines)
- Labels (data labels, category labels)
- Legend (position, font, etc.)
- Chart title
- Format Tab: This tab allows you to format the appearance of individual chart elements. You can change colors, fonts, borders, and more for a visually appealing chart.
Additionally, you can change the chart orientation (portrait or landscape):
- Click anywhere on your chart to activate the Chart Tools.
- Go to the "Page Layout" tab.
- In the "Page Setup" group, find the "Orientation" dropdown menu.
- Select "Portrait" for a standard vertical layout or "Landscape" for a horizontal layout.
Tips:
- Experiment with different quick layouts to see which one best suits your data and presentation style.
- Use the "Layout" and "Format" tabs for fine-tuning the look and feel of your chart.
- Consider the purpose of your chart and audience when choosing a layout and orientation.
- Remember, you can always preview the changes before applying them definitively.
By using these methods, you can effectively modify the layout and orientation of your chart to enhance its clarity and impact within your Excel spreadsheet.
