How do I sort data based on cell color or formatting in Excel?

You can sort data in Excel based on cell color or formatting using the following steps:

1. Select your data: Click on any cell within the data range you want to sort.

2. Go to "Data" tab: Navigate to the "Data" tab on the Excel ribbon.

3. Sort options: Click on "Sort" in the "Sort & Filter" group. This will open the "Sort" dialog box.

4. Sort by: Under "Sort by," choose the column you want to sort the data by.

5. Sort On: Here's where you define how to sort based on formatting:
- Click the dropdown menu under "Sort On" and choose "Cell Color" or "Font Color" depending on your preference.

6. Choose the color: Click the color selection button next to "Order" and pick the specific cell color you want to sort by.

7. Sort order:
- Select "Ascending" to sort cells with the chosen color to the top.
- Select "Descending" to sort cells with the chosen color to the bottom.

8. Additional Levels (Optional): If you want to sort by multiple colors, click "Add Level" and repeat steps 5-7 to specify another color and its sorting order.

9. Click OK: Once you've defined your sorting criteria, click "OK" to apply the sort.

Tips:

* You can also access the sort by color option through the AutoFilter dropdown menu on the column header (if filtering is enabled).
* Sorting by formatting works for other options like "Cell Icon" as well, allowing you to sort based on custom icon sets.
