How can I recover unsaved data in case of an Excel crash?

There are two main ways to recover unsaved data in Excel after a crash, depending on whether you had AutoRecover enabled:

1. Using AutoRecover (Most Likely Scenario):

- AutoRecover is a built-in Excel feature that automatically saves your work at regular intervals, even if you haven't manually saved the file.
- To recover unsaved data using AutoRecover:

1. Open Excel: Launch Excel after the crash.
2. Look for Document Recovery Pane: Upon opening, Excel might display the "Document Recovery Pane" automatically. This pane shows a list of recently recovered unsaved workbooks.
3. Identify your file: Look for the file name or a preview that resembles your unsaved work.
4. Open and Save: Click on the file you want to recover, and it will open in a new window. Crucially, save this file immediately with a desired name and location to avoid losing it again.

5. Recovering Unsaved Workbooks (Alternative):

- If the Document Recovery Pane doesn't appear, you can still try to find the unsaved file manually:

1. Go to File: Click the "File" tab in the top left corner of the Excel window.
2. Info > Manage Workbooks: Navigate to "Info" and then click on "Manage Workbooks" from the dropdown menu.
3. Recover Unsaved Workbooks: Select "Recover Unsaved Workbooks" from the submenu.
4. Open the File: A file explorer window will open, potentially showing hidden ".asd" files (Excel temporary files). These might contain your unsaved data.
5. Identify and Open: Look for a file with a date and time that coincides with your crash. Double-click the file you think might be yours to open it in Excel.
6. Save As: Similar to recovering from the Document Recovery Pane, remember to save this file immediately with a proper name and location.

Important Notes:

- The success of these methods depends on having AutoRecover enabled beforehand.
- By default, AutoRecover saves your work every 10 minutes, but you can adjust this interval in Excel settings.
- Recovering from ".asd" files might not always be successful, and the data might be incomplete depending on the timing of the crash.

Prevention is Key:

-养成 (n养成 xíng chéng) (养成 – to develop a habit) the habit of saving your work frequently using "Ctrl+S" or the "Save" button.
- Consider enabling OneDrive or SharePoint autosave for your workbooks to have a cloud backup in case of a local issue.
